There are rumors of placeholders returning, but it's looking less and less likely that they'll arrive in the Anniversary Update, as we draw closer to the expected July release date. While a fresh new UWP app is certainly a win for OneDrive users, there's still no official word on placeholders, files that would allow you to access your entire OneDrive through the file system. Press Start > Settings > Apps and search for 'OneDrive': Microsoft OneDrive is a backup and sync app, which is available for download from the OneDrive website. Files copied or moved to OneDrive folders are automatically uploaded to the cloud space. The OneDrive application integrates with your desktop and functions like any other folder on your PC or Mac. In fact, there's no reason that it would be any faster than simply using the web interface (and it doesn't appear to be). OneDrive is Microsoft’s cloud storage solution in response to Dropbox and other similar online services. Quickly access recent documents, or search your entire OneDrive. Browse your files, and those shared with you. Then again, those photos do take time to load in the app. The OneDrive app lets you add both consumer and business OneDrive accounts, and work with your files from anywhere. Of course, you could choose to sync your Pictures folder through the sync client, but it's entirely possible that you have more photos backed up than you have storage on your PC. Users can also access their recent documents and their photos. Previously, users needed to go to the web interface for that. The app contains other features that aren't in the sync client as well, such as restoring files and folders from the Recycle Bin. Remember them, and theyll save you time and make it even easier to work with your OneDrive files.
It also allows you to view, open, and edit files without ever having to sync them to your device. This app works differently to the OneDrive folder in Windows and has its own unique keyboard shortcuts.

Microsoft notes that while the new OneDrive sync client comes pre-installed on Windows 10 PCs, the new UWP app provides a touch-friendly interface.
Today, that app is available to download. Almost two weeks ago, we found out that Microsoft was working on a OneDrive UWP app.
